Mount Tomanivi, commonly known as Mount Victoria, is the Rooftop of Vitilevu and all of Fiji, standing at 4341 ft above sea level. The lush landscape and mountain ranges in this region hold a unique charm, unmatched by any other part of the islands. During colonial times, expatriates from Levuka, our old capital, sought refuge here for relaxation, escape from heat, peace of mind, and meditation.
Driving through the pathways of our early ancestors, you can’t help but feel the historical significance of this place. These mountain ranges carry stories of two influential figures deeply embedded in Fiji’s written history:
- Lutunasobasoba, the first native to set foot on our home soil 3500 years ago, along with his family.
- Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, a chief and formidable soldier, who lived here for a while, utilizing this place for meditation with our early spiritual ancestors.
