A Tropical Orchid Collection at the Mountain’s Base
The Garden of the Sleeping Giant is a botanical garden at the base of the Nausori Highlands, approximately 20 minutes north of Nadi. Originally the private orchid collection of the late actor Raymond Burr (Perry Mason, Ironside), the garden now contains over 2,000 varieties of orchids alongside tropical lilies, hibiscus, and the native plants of the Fijian forest. The garden’s setting — at the foot of a mountain range whose profile is said to resemble a sleeping giant — provides a green, cool escape from the coastal heat.
The garden walk takes approximately 45–90 minutes along shaded paths through the orchid houses, the lily pond, and the rainforest section. It is gentle, flat, and suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
